Gift for fun, gift for learning and gift for respite!

Not only does your gift help provide a unique camping experience for people with disabilities but it also gives our staff the same socially enriching experiential environment where they can just be themselves, learn lifelong skills and gain hard and soft skills for their future careers. One thing you may not think about is that your gift also provides our families with a week of respite where they can relax at home or go on a vacation without the worry of the safety and well-being of their loved one. Sometimes, it is the only break they get all year. The actual cost to support one camper for one week is $2,000. Using our tiered fee schedule, our families have the option to pay only half of the actual cost or $1,000. Hear below from Patti, whose son Michael has been coming to Camp Millhouse for 23 years.

My name is Patti N. and I am the mother of a 41 year old disabled adult son, Michael. We are crazy about Camp Millhouse!!! Michael started going to Camp Millhouse when he turned 18 and has continued every year with the exception of three years during the Covid pandemic. He returned in June of 2023 and I believe he had a great time! Michael doesn’t speak, and he is total care. It is not easy to find caregivers, let alone a whole camp full of staff that want to give him the care that he needs. Camp Millhouse has never faltered in giving excellent care to Michael and to make his camping experience as good as it could be for him. The only break I get all year from caring for Michael is the five days that he goes to camp. It is so beneficial to be able to take a deep breath for a few days and not worry about Michael being taken care of because I know he is. From the administration and the nurses to the individual counselors, I know that he is being given the best camping experience safely.

The one thing that has always bothered me is that I have not been able to donate financially to the camp as much as I would like to since I am a single mom taking care of a household of four. It was always difficult to come up with a sizable donation until I realized that I didn’t have to give a lot of money at once. I discovered that a small amount, given on a consistent basis, is just as beneficial. So every month, I send through the PayPal Giving Fund, a $25 unrestricted gift to Camp Millhouse. They can use it wherever they have the most need at that time. It doesn’t seem like much but I’ve been doing it for a couple years now and it does add up. I know that having donations they can count on, that they know are going to come in every month, really helps with the planning of their financial needs. So, if you feel like I do, that Camp Millhouse needs all the help they can get so Michael gets to continue his camp experience and I continue to get some respite, maybe you can give the way I do, a consistent monthly gift. I feel that’s the least we can do for all they do for us.
